“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”
-Socrates

The earth needs our help. She gives and gives, and is remarkably resilient, but there is little question that we are hurtling ever further into a climate crisis. While considering the wholesale change necessary to reverse the current damage can seem overwhelming, the truth is that we have countless opportunities each day to make choices that will have a positive impact on the environment.

To that end, My Philanthropies is committing to “Plastic-Free January,” and invites you to join us! Initiatives include foregoing plastic drink containers in lieu of metal water bottles and refrigerator filters, asking restaurants to use recyclable or washable dishes and cutlery, using compostable garbage bags, and cloth, mesh, glass, or otherwise reusable food storage containers. We are also looking to partner with local newspapers, food service purveyors, and other small businesses willing to reconsider best practices in light of our increasing climate consciousness.

We will be announcing contests and initiatives soon, inciting our friends and community partners to join us in this challenge. If you have any ideas of how to cut down on plastic use in every day life, or if you would like to brainstorm about alternative resources or otherwise get involved, please email us at programs@myphilanthropies.com.

Thank you, and here’s to seeing clearly in 2020!
